Pilchuck Primitive Pottery

100% Local Clay. Functional Art.

About
Pilchuck Primitive

We live in the greater Pilchuck watershed area.

We spent several years searching out local clay deposits, cleaning and processing the clay and testing for plasticity, shrinkage and throwability. We experienced many clay failures… yet we resisted the temptation to add ingredients to the local clay and “settle” for a “local clay blend”

Our patience and perseverance paid off through the grace of God.

We present to you a 100% local clay. We dug this clay on a hot July afternoon in 2024. We dried it. We crushed it.  We slaked it.  We sieved, decanted and dehydrated it for workability. When we threw it we rejoiced in the beauty of the most wonderful clay in our 50 years of pottery experience.

We glaze minimally because we want to share the beauty of our local clay.

Thank you for your patronage. Please enjoy this functional art from our little corner of heaven.
